A new product by MojoRisin is available: Places v1.0.0 - Your members know the good spots. Give them a map.
A member starts typing the name of a business and Places finds the real listing through Google. Pick it once and the name, address, location, phone number, website, business type, and weekly opening hours come with it — no duplicate listings and no hand-entered directory full of slightly different names. New places file themselves into your categories from their Google business types, while members can choose a category when needed.
The directory puts the ranked results and the map side by side. Every result carries its member rating, review count, category, address, current open or closed status, and a line from its latest review. Search by name, address, or business type; switch categories with one click; then rank the list by rating, most reviewed, recently reviewed, or recently added. Map pins and result cards follow each other, and every place page opens into its full weekly hours, contact details, directions, rating distribution, and member reviews.
Reviews use XenForo's editor and attachment system, so members can write the story and show the place. Every member gets one review per place, with a half-star rating from 0.5 to 5 stars. Reviews support reactions, reports, attachments, editing and deletion permissions, moderator logging, and XenForo search — including a dedicated place-review search tab with category and minimum-rating filters.
Keep the directory as wide or as local as you want. Set a city, county, or other Google region and use its boundary, or draw a radius around its center. Searches stay focused there, out-of-area submissions are stopped, and the control panel shows existing places that fall outside so you can review them, keep approved exceptions, or remove them. Leave the region off and Places works as an unrestricted directory.
The control panel manages every place and category, refreshes stored business details from Google on demand, and maps your categories to Google place types. Permissions cover viewing, adding, reviewing, reacting, editing, deleting, uploading and viewing attachments, and moderation. Page sizes and maximum review length are configurable, and the public navigation entry ships disabled until you choose to turn it on.
Requires Google Maps Platform API key with the Places API enabled.
